Yamaha DC2M4 Disklavier Mark IV grand piano with a unique and well-documented connection to legendary Canadian composer, producer and musician David Foster.
David Foster personally played this piano at a Victoria-area event prior to my purchase, and the piano bears his original signature.
Importantly, the provenance is documented.
On November 21, 2009, Simon Phillips, then Island Regional Manager for Tom Lee Music, emailed me photographs of Foster playing this exact instrument, writing:
“Attached are the pics we have on file of David playing your Disklavier piano.”
The photographs supplied by Tom Lee Music show David Foster at the piano, and his signature is visible on the instrument in the photographs. That same signature remains clearly visible on the piano today.
The original email and photographs will accompany the piano and provide an unusually strong chain of provenance linking David Foster to this specific instrument.
The Piano
Yamaha DC2M4 Disklavier Mark IV
Polished ebony grand piano
Approx. 5'8" in length
Purchased from Tom Lee Music in 2009
The Disklavier Mark IV combines a high-quality Yamaha acoustic grand piano with Yamaha's sophisticated reproducing-piano technology, allowing performances to be recorded and reproduced with movement of the actual keys and pedals.
The current Yamaha equivalent is the DC2X EN Disklavier ENSPIRE, with a Canadian list price in excess of C$60,000.
This piano offers two distinct attractions: it is a substantial Yamaha grand and Disklavier in its own right, while also being a genuine piece of Canadian music history associated with one of the country's most celebrated musicians and producers.
David Foster Provenance
David Foster is a multiple Grammy Award-winning producer, composer and musician whose career has included collaborations with artists including Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Chicago and many others.
This piano was not merely signed by Foster after the fact: there is contemporaneous documentation from Tom Lee Music confirming that he actually played this specific instrument.
Included with the sale:
• Original November 21, 2009 email from Simon Phillips of Tom Lee Music confirming David Foster played the piano
• Original photographs supplied by Tom Lee Music showing Foster playing the instrument
