Twas the night before Steinway, when all through the house
No music was stirring, not even by Strauss.
The strings were restrung by the rebuilder with care,
In hopes that a pianist soon would be there.
The keys were nestled all snug in the keybed,
While touch weight was adjusted without using lead.
More rapid than sixty-fourths his repeated notes they came,
And he leveled, and adjusted, the keys for the same!
Now, Kluge! now, Klinke! now, Abel and Renner!
On, Capstan! On, Flange! on, BackCheck and Whippen!
To the top of the scale! to the top of the score!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!
And then, in a twinkling, I heard from the strings
The pluck and ping that made them sing.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
The 1906 B made such a beautiful sound.
This Steinway B was made in 1906. It was purchased by a friend of mine in 1968 from Joseph Shale Inc, in Rochester, New York. I purchased the piano from my friend in 1984 and have owned it since. The piano has a beautiful bell/flute quality in the upper registers with that classic Steinway sustaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain. Midrange is warm with rich overtones. Bass has grit and growl with brassy overtones. This is the classic Steinway sound in a piano that has been brought up to date with high-quality parts by world class technicians. Sound board is original and is in perfect condition. Case and finish are in good condition.
The following maintenance has been performed on this piano:
-- 1998 keybed was shipped to Kluge in Germany for new keys and keytops. Also replaced keypins, backchecks, keyframe felt, key bushings, capstans, hammershanks and flanges. Ebony wood for sharp/flat black keys. Action rebuilt with Renner parts.
-- 2005 New Renner hammers installed, dehumidifier (heating rods) installed
-- 2015 rebuild by Dale Erwin at Erwin’s Piano Restoration Inc. in Modesto, CA. New strings installed using custom Heller (Germany) bass strings, new agraffes, new custom made pinblock and pins, and new custom bridge cap.
Piano has been regularly tuned, voiced, and regulated (as needed). Tuning performed at least twice a year. Inspection has been performed, report available upon request.
If you are looking for an older Steinway that has been well maintained this is the ideal piano.
