The Legendary History of Érard
Founded by Sébastien Érard in Paris, the Érard dynasty was the premier piano maker of the 19th century. In 1821, Érard revolutionized piano playing forever by inventing the double-escapement action—a mechanism that allowed notes to be repeated rapidly without the key fully returning to its resting position.
This technological breakthrough directly empowered the virtuosity of the Romantic era. Érard pianos were the personal instruments of choice for legends like Franz Liszt, Frédéric Chopin, Felix Mendelssohn, and Giuseppe Verdi.

To play an Érard is to experience the music exactly as the masters intended it to sound.
