A Classic American Concert Grand with an Exceptional History
Offered for sale is a beautiful, American-made 1966 Baldwin Model D, a full-size 9-foot concert grand piano featuring a warm, rich tonal character and a remarkably well-preserved original action.
Genuine ivory keytops, offering the distinctive tactile feel and natural moisture absorption appreciated by many classical pianists.
History and Condition
For several decades, this piano resided in a Beverly Hills home, where it served primarily as an elegant furnishing rather than an instrument in regular use. Consequently, it experienced exceptionally little playing wear during much of its early life.
When I purchased the piano approximately eight years ago, its original action was remarkably fresh for an instrument of its age.
According to the previous seller, the piano was professionally regulated, tuned, and voiced by Bob Anderson, a respected concert piano technician and tuner. The seller indicated that no other major work was necessary.
Following my purchase, the piano became my son's primary instrument and was played regularly until he went to college. During that period, it was professionally tuned approximately once a year.
The piano has remained in a private residential setting rather than being subjected to decades of heavy institutional or concert-hall use.
Tone and Musical Character
This Baldwin Model D offers a beautiful, warm, rich, and mellow tone, without the harsh or metallic brightness of some pianos
Its bass response is natural and well balanced, complementing the instrument's overall rounded tonal character.
The piano is particularly enjoyable for expressive and lyrical playing.
Although it has not been professionally tuned in approximately five years, it still sounds remarkably close to tune to my ear, suggesting good tuning stability.
