I am a concert pianist and recently inherited an 85 key, 6'1 Knabe Grand Piano (Serial # 17512)
The piano was originally purchased by concert pianist Lawson Jones in the early 1960's in Oklahoma. His wife, Mary Chelf Jones was a voice teacher who became a mentor of mine after I attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts (NMC '72, IAA '77).
She told me that according to her husband both Rachmaninov and Paderewski played full recitals on this piano. I haven't found documentation on where they would have done this but I do know Paderewski promoted Knabe pianos for a short time and Rachmaninov recorded on a Knabe and used them from time to time.
Lawson Jones passed away in 1966. Mrs. Jones had the piano completely restored by noted restorer, James Reeder in his factory in Grand Ledge, Michigan in 1978. I was with her when it made the trip from Interlochen to Grand Ledge, MI., for the restoration.
The case is African Rosewood and in great condition.
I've enclosed the bill from the restoration so you can see what was done to it.
Currently the piano is in storage at Walter Piano Transport, Elkhart, IN.
They can ship to any address you need.
Price is negotiable.
Thank you for your consideration.
