A rare instrument with magnificent sound, 1916 Rud. Ibach Sohn Model 240 (7'10") Semi-Concert Grand piano, manufactured in Barmen, Germany. Often referred to as the "Richard Wagner" model, Ibach grands of this scale are internationally renowned for their thunderous, rich bass register and incredible craftsmanship. This specific instrument features a unique National Stock Number (NSN: 7710-00-267-5324) stamp, showing it was historically cataloged and utilized by the U.S. Military/Federal Government, a fascinating piece of military-musical history.

Condition & Technical Details:

Action: The action is in good, highly playable condition. It was serviced just prior to 2017, receiving new pads. Keys and pedals all working properly.

Structure: The gold-painted cast-iron plate is fully intact and without cracks. Soundboard in excellent condition, without cracks or fissures. Tuning pins sit straight and at uniform height (with one missing pin and one oversized pin replacement to maintain tuning stability on that note). There are no signs of leaning pins or pinblock splitting.

Strings: Retains most of its original strings. It is currently located in the Asheville, NC area and will need a standard tuning after transport.

Keys: Features all original keytops. A few facing veneers have come unglued over time, but available loose pieces are included.

Exterior: The case finish is black and in unrestored, worn condition with a missing flylid and flylid hinge. Lid, most missing key fronts, and “Richard Wagner” metal scroll are currently not installed but present. Lid hinges and lid support are available with sale, but are new and not original pieces.
