This exceptional piano was rebuilt in NYC around 1993 (close to its 100th birthday) and sold by Beethoven pianos. At that time it received a new soundboard, pin block, strings, pins, and a complete set of NY Steinway action parts. It was refinished in high-polish lacquer with early 1900s "window pane" Steinway legs, lyre and music desk. After 30 years of home use by the late owner, a serious amateur pianist, the hammers have substantial wear. He kept the room climate controlled, the piano was away from direct sunlight, and it was tuned every six months. The acoustical core of the piano (aka "belly") is superb. It still plays well and sounds great.
Newly rebuilt Steinways of this model cost $90-135K. This is a great opportunity to buy one at a fraction of that price and make any action or tonal improvements you wish. If you wish, the broker can do any work you choose at their workshop in Great Barrington where a prospective buyer can try a rebuilt model C Steinway of the same vintage with new hammers.
The piano is for sale as-is from home by the late-owner's wife. It is a private sale. Not retail. Click on the"Contact Seller" button to make an appointment to play the piano. There are no services, moving, tuning, etc. included in the asking price. All offers are welcome.
