Restored 1908 Baldwin Model K 6’3”
This piano was fully restored in 2015 by Restoration Piano in Lafayette, California.
Important facts:
• Original keys polished to like new condition
• Restoration included removing the plate, inspecting and refinishing the sound board
• Refinishing the plate with Steinway gold paint and a clear coat of lacquer to minimize future oxidation
* New tuning pins
• Bridge refinished
• Completely new felt everywhere
• New Mapes bass strings, new steel strings
• Rebuilding the action – Renner hammers, bushings, dampers, felts
• Body was stripped and refinished with a ‘piano quality’ hand rubbed lacquer finish as close as possible to the original color
• Bench also refinished to match the piano
• All brass work was polished to like new condition including screws and agraffes (the guides for the tuning pins and strings)
• Original deerskin back checks
The sound is dynamic, powerful and impressive. It’s truly a pleasure to play and listen to. This piano is ready to live another 100 years.
I am a piano technician and the piano owner who worked alongside the master rebuilder on this 18 month project. No shortcuts were taken. Must be seen to be appreciated. This piano literally comes from the golden age of piano making which was between 1890 - 1929. The design, wood and craftsmanship match anything produced today.
