Offered here is a 1968 Baldwin Model L grand piano, built in Cincinnati during Baldwin’s most respected production period. The Model L (6’3”) is widely regarded as Baldwin’s finest and most musically versatile grand — powerful without being aggressive, and exceptionally well balanced across the keyboard.

Tonally, this piano is exactly what musicians seek in a mature Baldwin: warm, round, rich, and buttery, with depth and sustain rather than the bright, brassy edge associated with many contemporary grands. The sound is even and unforced, with a particularly beautiful singing treble and a resonant, supportive bass. (I have a video with sound - please write to request. ;)

The piano is housed in Baldwin’s mid-century modern case, designed to pair with Eames and Saarinen furniture, and it was produced in relatively small numbers in the late 1960s. This slimmer, minimalist cabinet — with clean lines and understated legs — is far less common than traditional Baldwin cases and works exceptionally well in modern interiors.

This instrument has never been rebuilt, and does not need to be. It has had only 2 owners and was professionally serviced at the time of purchase approximately 25 years ago, including hammer shaping and full regulation, and has been well cared for since. The piano will require tuning and minor regulation after its next move, as expected, and the damper pedal produces a small mechanical noise that should be addressed during routine service.
