Offered for sale is an exceptional 1896 Mason & Hamlin Style B grand piano, built in Boston, Massachusetts, and bearing serial number 10096.

Measuring 7'4", this is a substantial late-19th-century Mason & Hamlin grand featuring the company's distinctive Screw Stringer construction. This early Style B should not be confused with the much smaller modern Mason & Hamlin Model B.

The piano's cast-iron plate is prominently marked MASON & HAMLIN – BOSTON, U.S.A., STYLE B, and SCREW STRINGER, along with its historic patent dates. The plate also clearly displays serial number 10096.

One of the most important features of this piano is its documented professional restoration completed in 2015. The original itemized restoration invoice accompanies the piano and identifies it as:
“1896 Mason & Hamlin 7'4" grand #10096 – Complete Restoration.”
The restoration document lists 102.5 hours of labor and approximately $8,657 in actual restoration work and associated costs before credits. The piano has since been physically measured at 7'4", which is the dimension used in this listing.

The extensive restoration included work to the piano's soundboard, bridges, strings, action, hammers, keyboard, dampers, case and plate. Documented work includes repair of soundboard separations and bridge damage; repair of cracks at the pin line; replacement of broken treble strings; replacement of hammer heads; extensive action cleaning, repair and regulation; key cleaning, reweighting and rebushing; replacement of numerous felts and backchecks; damper and trap work servicing; cleaning of strings and aliquots; case refinishing; soundboard and plate cleaning/refinishing; polishing of hardware; and installation of a dehumidifier system.

The result is much more than an attractive antique piano. It is a large, historic American grand with documented restoration and an unusual Mason & Hamlin engineering system from the company's early piano-making era. The finish is a beautiful polished mahogany case with a rich reddish-brown color and attractive natural grain.

The original restoration documentation will be included with the piano and is available for review by serious prospective buyers.

This piano would be particularly appealing to a Mason & Hamlin enthusiast, pianist, collector, historic property, church, music studio or institution looking for an unusual American grand with both musical and historical interest.

Tuning/Condition Disclosure: The piano is playable and has been professionally maintained. The current piano technician has advised that it requires tuning approximately every 3–6 months and has not identified the reason it does not remain in tune longer. This is being disclosed so prospective buyers have a complete understanding of the instrument's current condition.

Buyers are welcome and encouraged to have the piano inspected by a qualified piano technician prior to purchase.

Asking $13,500 or best reasonable offer.

The restoration documentation is available upon request. Inspection by a prospective buyer or the buyer's piano technician is welcome.

Professional piano moving/shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.
