Rare & wonderful Victorian Steinway & Sons model A piano for sale. Built in NYC in 1889, this Brazilian Rosewood piano returned to the Steinway factory in 1997 for a full restoration. Completed in June 1998, we have Steinway’s certificate of restoration. After spending the last few decades at a fine home here in Atlanta, this instrument has been freshly serviced and, with additional care given to the satin rosewood finish, is ready for a new home.

Warm and lush, this early model A still offers modern performance but with a tone not found in modern instruments…even modern Steinway pianos. This instrument balances rich complexity with a centered clarity, making it a perfect home instrument. And because it was fully restored by the Steinway factory including new Steinway action parts, new fully-fit pinblock, new soundboard and bridges, and showing little wear since, the piano is perfectly capable of professional levels of use.

In addition to the restoration history, we also have the complete provenance of this piano since it was first ordered by a prominent Atlanta family in 1889. This piano was central to the musical life of an actress that starred in over 20 plays and 5 films. It is our sincere hope that this instrument will continue this legacy and inspire yet another artist. To experience this piano is to go back in time.

No longer available in Brazilian Rosewood, New York list price for a Steinway model A in East Indian Rosewood is $210,200. To further offer this model and finish in a similar art case would exceed $300,000.
