About Boston GP178 PE II:

The Boston Performance Edition II (PE II) series is designed by Steinway & Sons. While it costs significantly less than a Steinway, thanks to Steinway patented wide-tail design, this 5'10" piano has the massive soundboard area and deep, powerful roar of a much larger 6'2" professional grand.

While you can find older model for less, the Performance Edition II, introduced around 2016-17 featured several significant design changes aimed at improving both acoustics tonal quality and aesthetic appeal, building upon the original GP178 Performance Edition released in 2009.

It is the "sweet spot" upgrade, featuring a specialized lower-tension string scale that makes the notes ring longer and feel smoother under your fingers. It’s essentially the most affordable way to get the elite Steinway sound and feel.

Key design changes in the PE II from earlier PE model include:

- Rescaled Strings: The bass and treble wires were redesigned with lower string tension, resulting in a deeper, clearer bass and improved sustain and tone clarity in the treble.
