This is a gorgeous Kawai Model KG-1E grand in the polish ebony finish. Has been regularly tuned, cleaned and serviced and has an amazingly nice tone and touch. One owner piano - purchased new from Kawai dealer in San Francisco, and has spent its life in the mild climate of the SF Bay area, so it's in excellent condition structurally, musically and cosmetically. Must experience to appreciate.
Piano was built in 1988, but still looks and plays like a new piano (See photos.) Kawai made the Model KG-1 in 2 different sizes over the years: Earlier models of the KG-1 (versions C, D) were 5' 1" in length, but later models, including the KG-1E and KG-1A, were 5' 4". This "E" version of the Kawai KG-1 series is the later version, and the larger of the series. The advantage of the extra 3 or 4 inches in size is in having longer bass strings for better tone, and a larger soundboard for better projection. This model is an excellent tradeoff between size, and tone quality. (All things being equal, the bigger the grand, the better the sound, but most folks simply don't have room (or budget) for a 9' concert grand, and thus most grand owners have somewhat smaller grands that fit their space requirements while still providing the best possible sound for the size.) Kawai uses proven piano designs and stringing scales that are time tested and that have also proven popular with the pianists and their piano technicians. The stringing scale used in this model KG-1E is the same as is used in the later model RX-1 and also in Kawai's current production Model GX-1, and also in their current model GL-30, both 5' 5" pianos.

The piano has many of the hallmarks and features of high quality, artist instruments - including a full sostenuto pedal, adjustable music rack, full and half lid props, solid spruce soundboard, a very durable, superb and responsive action that should last many more decades, and which, consisting of both traditional wood parts and Kawai's proprietary ABS action parts, gives you the best of both worlds. Also has the traditional built-in lid/fallboard lock, which many piano brands these days are apparently trying to phase out (-probably as a cost-cutting effort).

Kawai is currently, and has been since 1992, the OEM manufacturer of Steinway's Boston line of pianos. Kawai's pianos can be found all over the world, in concert halls, schools, churches, universities and music conservatories, international piano competitions, symphonies and opera companies, -and in innumerable homes. Kawai produces anything from small studio, vertical, and digital pianos, all the way up to exotic and stunning 9' Concert Grands selling for in excess of $200,000. Kawai, and their competitor Yamaha, are the two big piano manufacturers in Japan. (This piano, like most of Kawai's other high quality grands, was built in Japan). It is similar in size and quality to the 5' 4" Steinway/Boston Model GP-163, the 5' 3" Yamaha Model G1 and C1 grands, the 5' 3" Knabe Model WKG53, and the 5' 5" Baldwin Model BP165.

Comes with original large duet bench with music compartment, caster cups, and key for piano's lid and fallboard lock.
