We are pleased to present a distinguished Sohmer grand piano, built in 1893, housed in a Victorian rosewood case with ebony black keys. This instrument represents not only a work of fine craftsmanship but also a piece of American musical history.

Provenance & History
• 1893 – Built by Sohmer in New York for a wealthy New York family.
• 1908 – Carefully packed by Sohmer and shipped around Cape Horn to San Francisco.
• 1954 – Sold at auction to a Baptist church camp.
• 1961 – Acquired by a Los Angeles piano rebuilder, then purchased by Bill as a restoration project.
• 1965–1982 – Fully restored and used in Bill’s recording studio, where it was played in numerous sessions by noted pianists, including Roger Williams, who remarked: “What a magnificent instrument.”
• 1997 – Rebuilt once more with new strings, refinishing, and installation of a PianoDisc system (a $7,000 enhancement) enabling both self-play and recording.
