The 1098 is Steinway's best-selling upright piano and this model, hand built in their NY factory, provides a full, rich sound and has an extremely expressive touch. It is capable of roaring like thunder when pushed or singing beautifully when played softly.

For this very reason, many professional pianists choose this model for their "home" and/or practice piano. This is an heirloom quality piano designed for multiple generations of players. It includes the sostenuto pedal, which was not always found in this model.

I purchased this piano new in 2000 and it plays as well (if not better than) than a brand new 1098 that costs over 3 times this price (current 2018 retail: $33,300). In November of 2017, Artisan pianos performed their all-day "Gold" servicing on it (tuning, string Leveling, Regulation, Hammer Surfacing and Voicing) so it is performing at the highest level. Their owner will attest to the top notch condition and build quality of this piano. For price comparison, Portland Pianos currently has 1098 Satin Ebony piano from 1991 (8 years older) listed for $15,900.

This is a serious instrument that can meet the needs of the most discerning and demanding musicians who are limited on space. The only reason I am parting with this amazing instrument is that I am moving up to a 6+" grand and can't house both of them.
