This instrument, a 1928 Mason & Risch Folding upright piano is one of the rarest pianos in Canada. It features a special design which allows the keyboard to be folded up into the body of the piano, giving the front a flat, bureau-like appearance.
It has been restored with refinished gloss figured-walnut case to "original" condition, including repairs to split and damaged veneer. The plate was re-bronzed, the soundboard repaired and refinished, and it was fully repinned and restrung. All action felt was replaced, and new custom-bored German Abel hammers were hung. all keyboard felt and paper punchings were replaced as were the key bushings. The piano was regulated and received several tunings. This is a very rare piano making a replacement cost impossible as only six were every made and this is the only fully restored one left.
