As "odd couple" as it sounds, Kimball used to own the Bösendorfer company. During that time, Kimball continued to manufacture many of their low-end, mass-market pianos, but they also manufactured a few high-quality pianos using Bösendorfer tech/specs. These pianos were labeled Viennese Edition or Viennese Classic on the fallboard, and they're easy to identify because they have the graduated "porthole" Bösendorfer openings in the plate.
This piano has been restored internally, with new bass strings, incredibly beautiful, consistent tone and very even action, about 7/10 on the weight meter. It is very beautiful and a joy to play. The pinblock is rock solid.
This is a very inexpensive way to own a grand piano that could be put up against pianos costing ten times the price in terms of sound quality.
This piano has an early polyester finish, and these are known to crack. The instrument was in a recording studio for a long time, and at some point they screwed a pzm microphone onto the bottom of the lid. They didn't drill through the polyester first, so it has major cracks that go all around the lid. These are just cosmetic and I didn't care about that, though it's nearly impossible to find someone to refinish polyester even if you wanted to spend the cash. See pic.
A real "pianist's piano". You won't find anything approaching this quality without spending a lot more money. $5000 or best offer.
