BLÜTHNER Piano Company was established in 1853 in Leipzig, Germany, the same year Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg started Steinway & Sons in New York. By 1900, Blüthner had become Germany’s largest piano manufacturer, producing over 5,000 piano per year, more than the total of Steinway & Sons New York and Hamburg production, today.

Unique and exciting is the Blüthner ALIQUOT system, offering the upper section of the piano one additional string per note, as compared to the standard three strings in any other piano brand. This string is NOT struck by the piano hammer, but vibrates – as physicists call it - in sympathetic resonance. What we don’t read in literature: Not only does this ONE added string per note resonate when that particular key is struck, ALL strings of the Aliquot section that are related to that note will “chime in” and make the voice of the piano even more resonant, sustained, interesting and alive.

The Aliquot system was developed by Julius Blüthner over 150 years ago and, to this day, remains a key facet of the world-renowned Blüthner GOLDEN TONE.
