Fully refurbished in 2021, original keys, soundboard, pin block and action. Straight strung with beautiful bass tone. New strings and hammers. Includes ultra-rare "double soundboard," the removable wooden piece that sits above the strings and was used to mute the sound for home instrumentalists in the 1800s. Constructed in Paris less than a year after Chopin's death. A stunning piece of musical history.

Flaws: some cracks in pin block (see pictures), A5 has a hammer that sometimes strikes in non-resonant way

From the archives: "It was purchased by a French family in the mid-1800's and remained in the family house in Paris through WWII. When a daughter of the family married, she shipped the piano to America. It has spent most of the interim at an estate called Branitan, which sits across the Potomac River from Mount Vernon."
