This is a lovely little Young Chang grand piano, 157 centimeters (or 5' 2") in length, purchased new in the 1980's. It is still in excellent - almost like-new condition, and is very clean, inside and out. Has been meticulously cared for. Piano has just recently been tuned, serviced, regulated, and voiced, and is ready to simply be taken home and played and enjoyed. The case and finish are in really great condition - almost "showroom" new in appearance (see photos). Has a great sound and responsive touch. Must see and experience to appreciate. This particular G157 model is about the same size as, and is very similar in style, appearance, and performance, to the Yamaha G1 or C1 models, or the Kawai models of the same size.

Young Chang started out as a dealer/distributor/assembler of Yamaha pianos for the Korean market and other parts of Asia shortly after the Korean War (1956). Later, Young Chang decided to begin building their own pianos, and as they thus became a competitor, they and Yamaha parted ways. This may help explain why Young Chang pianos look and sound very similar to Yamaha pianos - in so many significant ways.

Young Chang and Samick are two huge multinational piano manufacturers with headquarters in South Korea and subsidiaries in the United States, China, and other countries, -and are also two of the largest and most automated piano manufacturers in the world. Young Chang produces a huge number of pianos for the world piano market, -including for the U.S., Canada, European Union, and China, under the Young Chang name, and also under a number of different piano brands and names. Because of their expertise in piano building, Young Chang has been selected, in the past, to make pianos for such distinguished brands as Steinway (-Steinway's Essex line of pianos) Baldwin (Baldwin's Wurlitzer brand), Knabe, Weber, Nakamichi, Yamaha (as mentioned above) -and a number of other piano brands.

(Since 1990, Young Chang has also owned the Kurzweil brand of digital keyboards and pianos.)

Piano is located in Pleasant Hill, California, (right next door to Walnut Creek), in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is a truly lovely instrument that, because of the quality of its design and construction, will be an excellent piano for the beginning, intermediate, -or even semi-advanced student of music. It is a good size (5' 2") for a home grand -large enough to have a good sized soundboard for good sound and bass strings long enough for good bass tone even in the lowest bass, yet still small enough so that it will fit easily in most living spaces. It has a number of features found on high quality, pricier grands, such as a duplex scale and aliquot bars, and a modern design of piano action that is very fast and responsive. Renowned scale designers such as Steinway's Joseph Pramberger and Del Fandrich have helped mold and shape the Young Chang sound over the years. This is a very nice, quality little grand.
