Very Limited numbers of the Kawai RO grand piano were manufactured. .These pianos were the predecessor to the Shigeru Kawai handmade pianos. The Kawai RO and EX concert grand pianos were built in a separate grand piano facility called the Ryuyo Grand Piano Factory. Hence the name of these pianos was designated the RO grand piano, for the Factory where they were produced.

A very high level of care and craftsmanship was taken to manufacture each piano. A careful selection of materials, labor, and standards were used to create the RO grand pianos
The Soundboard, rims, bridges, and the action had significant improvements to ensure the highest quality in sound and feel.
