This is a fine old Steinway grand. Although it's tunable and playable as-is, it really needs work to feel and sound as it should. Still, it has a lot going for it: rebuilt by Acme in Somerville, MA circa 1990, refinished, new soundboard, pin block, action parts, strings and damper felt. The sound board and bridge caps are excellent, with good crown and no apparent splits. The #3 tuning pins are snug and the pitch is stable. It has good original case parts, veneer and finish, except the arms that need new veneer. Light wear on NY Steinway hammers, shanks, reps. Original underlevers (aka "back action") with fixed tabs. Highest damper is A#5. (D#6 the norm by late 1880s.) Whites nicely recovered. Ebony blacks need to be refinished. All keys are worn on sides. Key balance holes too loose. 2 action rails split and soldered. Should replace. Strings rusty. Best to clean sound board, paint plate and restring. The price is for the piano as-is with no warranty or services provided. Selling from owner's home in Stockbridge, MA.
