This piano was in a church for the last 80 years here in Grafton, Massachusetts. I have been tuning and maintaining it there for about 35 years. It was never moved during that time and played only on Sundays. Recently I was lucky enough to become its new owner. It benefitted greatly from being in a stable, low humidity environment for many years, but it still needed a good amount of work to restore it to its full glory. I set to work on the restoration.

This included all the usual things that are done on top quality grand pianos like Steinway and Mason & Hamlin such as: Refinishing of the highest quality with closed pore hand rubbed finish. The wood is a rare and exceptionally beautiful Circassian walnut. I looked at every AA I could find being advertised in the US and not one of them is as beautiful. Look for yourself. Also has its original matching bench, which is a rarity.

Other items: Custom hand fitted Bolduc maple pinblock, new German Roslau strings, premium quality bass strings, cast iron plate stripped and re-bronzed and lettered, damper heads refinished, Keyboard renewed with best quality available German keytops and fronts, refurbished original ebony sharps.

Also: Action and keyboard blueprinted back to original factory specifications. New Lamoreux damper felts, refurbished original back action.

If you look at other AA's, get down under the piano and look up. You are likely to find that the underside of the piano is dirty and dusty, out of sync with rest rest of the piano. I always dis-assemble the lyre and replace all the leather pieces and felt, as well as lubricate all contact points so the pedals work smoothly and without sound. I apply varnish to the soundboard and paint the entire rim. When you see it, it is as clean and new looking as the rest of the piano.
Of course it doesn't contribute anything to the sound of the piano but is pleasing nevertheless.

Any parts, new or otherwise are worthless if the piano does not have a superb sound. If you come play this Mason & Hamlin, I am sure you will love the sound and exceed your expectations overall.

Thank you, Geoffrey
