This grand piano was made in Austria by Czapka & Sohn in 1920. It was owned by one family until we bought it a few years ago from them. Despite its age, it is in good condition with a beautiful sound ready to be played daily.

The piano has a Viennese action widely used by piano makers in Vienna. This was the action of pianos played by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. The action has been overhauled by certified piano technician Lee Post of Mountain Melodies. With a little bit of additional fine tuning of the dampers, you won’t be able to tell it is over 100 years old.

The case shows some signs of use and the long journey it made from Austria to Canada, having survived the war. The original ivory keys are in excellent condition with not a single chip.

Czapka & Sohn was one of the better known piano makers in Vienna at the time, aside from Bösendorfer and Ehrbar, but they unfortunately did not survive the economic crises of the 1930s.

This fine instrument keeps the tuning very well and is ready to be enjoyed by a connoisseur pianist appreciating this rare, vintage piano.
