This is a 1978 vintage August Förster Model 190 grand, built in Löbau, Germany. (The company has been around since 1859.) This piano is in excellent condition and has just recently been restrung by one of the most capable and respected piano rebuilders in the San Francisco Bay Area, and also has had the action reconditioned. It has an amazing tone quality, -many pianists feel that this 6' 4" grand has the sound of a much larger (7' or over) instrument. Part of this is due to its especially wide tail, which gives this piano much more soundboard area than that of other grands this length. The bass on this instrument is extremely deep and rich, but it also has an extremely nice sound throughout its entire range, all the way up to the very topmost notes. The action is extremely responsive, allowing you to effortlessly play anything from pppp to ffff.
This piano is in excellent structural condition: The soundboard, pinblock, bridges, ribs, rim, beams, and other structural components are in almost "like-new" condition. The case and finish are in pretty good condition too. (Piano looks very good cosmetically.)
August Förster is one of those elite European piano makers that makes a small number of extremely high quality instruments each year. If you are looking for a grand of the highest quality at a great price, you owe it to yourself to give this instrument a try. Förster pianos are comparable in construction and quality to those of Bosendorfer, Bechstein, Bluthner, Estonia, Sauter, Seiler, Hamburg Steinway, and Grotrian in Europe, and to Steinway, and Mason & Hamlin here in the United States.
