Steinway A1 originally manufactured in 1890, fully rebuilt in 2022 by expert piano rebuilder Mike Smith in the state of Washington. The sound with the new soundboard strings bridges action etc is incredible. The type of person who would like this type of sound is one who likes a range of dynamic expression and subtlety, with the focus on being able to produce very soft softs, permeating overtones with the sustain pedal, and a long lasting vibration. In my estimation against new Steinways I would say this has better sustain (longer lasting pitch without early decay). It is very easy to bring out melodies! The types of hammers are custom made softer, so don't expect a piano that would shine by projecting boldly in a concert hall. Rather this is a comfortable volume and increase in clarity and sustain to enjoy in your space or in a large living room with a high ceiling or to provide beautiful entry music to any space. I have tuned and played thousands of pianos maybe I'm a little biased but I don't think I've heard a better one to my taste. If you are concerned about the piano being rebuilt rather than new, you can put your concerns aside because rebuilt golden era pianos are the bomb, ask anyone who knows.
