A very fine late 19th century Louis XV style parquetry rosewood three-leg Erard Grand Concert piano with bench. Beautiful quarter veneered case with hand carved details on legs, along bottom of case and lyre box.
Erard is the oldest and most prestigious French piano manufacturer. The firm was founded by Sebastian Erard who built his first piano in 1777 in Paris. Erard's fame spread and royal commissions followed for Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Erard has been acclaimed for pianos of the highest quality which were favored by Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Paderewski.
Crafted between 1891 and 1900 based on its serial number, the piano is 7’2” long and in good condition. It is missing the ivory on the front of 8 keys and could use a professional restoration. Although a rare find, this piece is priced to sell as owner is moving.
