I bought this Satin Ebony K. Kawai RX-2 grand piano last summer from a woman in the Liberty, MO area who was the first owner, who bought it New in 2007 to learn to play on. She told me she lost interest in becoming proficient after a few years and it was only lightly played after she stopped taking lessons, but it was tuned several times and was a cherished part of her living room. I bought it hoping to learn to play as well, but never really found the time so am going to sell it. I went to a piano store to educate myself about condition and prices and this one is in better shape cosmetically than any matte black piano I saw with only a few light smudges and angel hair surface scratches in a few places with just the right reflection, and it was certainly played way less. I tried to get a picture of the felt on the hammers, because they look to have been played very little with not much string indentations at all. Feel free to call or text me and come see it and play it for yourself.

The soundboard is the very heart of the piano’s tone. Its purpose is to transform the vibrations of the piano’s strings into a beautiful, resonant tone. Kawai uses only straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce for all grand piano soundboards. Each one is tested with state-of-the-art equipment to measure the speed at which sound energy travels through it. Only those soundboards that exceed our demanding resonance standards are selected for use in Kawai grand pianos.

Bridges transfer the vibrations of the strings to the soundboard. RX Series bass bridges are made of the highest quality hard maple or beech. Treble bridges are vertically laminated with 13 layers of maple and mahogany for maximum strength and optimal transfer of sound. The RX-6 and RX-7 feature a single, continuous bridge that helps to smooth the transition between bass and treble registers
