This beautiful antique piano is thought to have been made by Joseph Hisky of Vienna, Austria and Baltimore, Maryland in the 1840's. The refinished case is made of burl and highly figured mahogany with a music holder of rosewood. Small mahogany finials hang below rounded corners of the case. The rare arched pedestal has ebony and boxwood inlays and is fitted with casters. The piano has a spruce soundboard and the iron hitch pin block is cast with an elaborate gold colored lyre or harp design. Name plate is missing and piano needs musical restoration. A nearly identical piano, except for some pedestal details, is included in the Smithsonian Collection (Catalog No. 315707). Hisky pianos are found in other museums and collections, and the Carrol House (signer of Declaration of Independence) in Baltimore.
